Hello and love to all!

Lately I've been feeling ALL of my feelings~ with force. This is new. Let me explain...

A number of years ago, when I began a more invested yoga practice and started to study yoga philosophy, I was particularly taken with the concept of Vairagya, or non-attachement. Letting go of my normally reactive, emotional responses to life's challenges seemed appealing... and daunting! And it definitely was difficult.

After some amount of practice my efforts paid off and it started to work. I no longer felt the intense heat of anger or the unbearable weight of sadness but I also no longer felt much glow from happiness or sweetness from love. In fact, for a while I actually felt nothing. I started to wonder if I just didn't care about anything anymore.

Then, all at once, those feelings started to rush back in. They were familiar. They were strong. But something was different. I noticed that no longer was my immediate response to react but rather to observe and absorb the feelings moving through me. And so here I sit feeling every little thing… and enjoying the hell out of the ride!!!

Here's to the sweetness of love, the weight of sadness, the heat of anger and the glow of happiness… may you feel them all!

Oh, and I have new blog obsession!!!

Recently, I had the opportunity to spend some time listening to the brilliant Johnathan FitzGordan lecture on anatomy and yoga injuries. I find his writing to be both approachable and informative… not just for yogis!  Check it out and let me know what you think!

Hello and love to all!

A couple weeks ago I came across something in Leslie Kaminoff's book,Yoga Anatomy, that blew my mind. As some of you know,I've been geeking out about it ever since…

I paraphrase- When we breathe, we generally think of the drawing in of oxygen and releasing it out as actions of the nose and mouth. And, while obviously it's true that the path of the breath does move through the nose and mouth, what is actually happening is occurring deeper inside the body. As we inhale, the diaphragm muscle moves down making more space inside our trunk and, here comes the crazy part, since oxygen has weight it must pour into the body to fill up the space that has been created. So, as we make space inside of our bodies, the universe literally has to come inside and fill us up. Whoa. Right?

Over the past few months, I've learned that this exact thing is true on many different levels. By making space in our lives, we give ourselves the option of being filled with the things that we are longing for. Clearing out space in our schedules, eliminating habits and relationships that are no longer serving us and getting rid of negative self talk all leave us open and available to receive the beautiful things that the universe has to offer.

Make room for your dreams to come true and let the universe in!

Warmth,
Jessica
